Việt Nams Ambitious Journey at 33rd SEA Games in Thailand

Việt Nam is gearing up for a grand display of sporting prowess as it prepares to send a massive delegation comprising over a thousand individuals to compete in the upcoming 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand. This includes not only nearly 50 officials, staff, and team leaders but also a significant number of coaches and athletes. The scale of participation marks a new record for Việt Nam in terms of actual competitors at the SEA Games.

The announcement about the formidable delegation was made during the fifth Executive Committee Meeting of the Việt Nam Olympic Committee’s fifth term held recently in Hà Nội. As preparations unfolded, numbers were crunched, and each team’s medal aspirations were communicated to the Sports Authority of Việt Nam.

Looking back at the previous edition of the games in Cambodia, where over 1,000 individuals participated including 702 athletes along with coaches and foreign experts; this year promises an even more robust showing by Việt Nam.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyễn Văn Hùng laid out the roadmap for success emphasizing on preparing diligently for two crucial events – the Asian Youth Games and most importantly, the 33rd SEA Games. He stressed on maintaining their competitive edge across various sports domains.

In his address at the committee meeting, Minister Hùng urged sport officials and coaches to broaden their focus beyond just traditionally strong sports. He emphasized nurturing talent across disciplines that have high potential for clinching medals both regionally and internationally. Identifying and supporting promising athletes to excel at their craft was highlighted as a key priority.

State-run sports centers were urged to collaborate closely with federations and regional authorities to unearth budding talents early on through grassroots competitions. Minister Hùng underscored providing optimal training conditions for athletes ensuring they are well-prepared to secure victories on home turf.

The upcoming event in Thailand will feature an impressive lineup of 50 sports including 47 official ones alongside three demonstration events scheduled from December 9-20 across Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla. A total of 569 sets of prestigious medals are up for grabs motivating Vietnamese sporting stars who are eyeing gold across diverse disciplines such as football, athletics, wushu, swimming among others.

Notably making a return this time are shooting and archery – two sports where Việt Nam eyes gold medal glory after being absent last season raising expectations further. With aims set high at securing no less than 85 golds overall while aiming for a top-three finish on the medal tally; there is palpable excitement surrounding Việt Nam’s prospects at yet another successful outing following their triumphs in previous editions including topping the charts back in 2023.
